Shou Sugi House Movie Room

The basement is transformed into an immersive home theatre featuring indigo-blue stained birch veneer panels arranged in a precise grid. Each panel is subtly tilted to conceal speakers while enhancing acoustic diffusion and absorption. Narrow gaps between the panels provide concealed indirect lighting, casting a soft glow across the room. At the rear, an artificial skylight introduces the illusion of natural daylight into the basement, creating a sense of openness and depth while providing a visual contrast to the darker cinematic environment. Together, the layered timber geometry, integrated acoustics, concealed lighting and artificial skylight create a carefully controlled atmosphere that elevates the space beyond a conventional home theatre.
